Post-Surgery Update

Hi everyone – Carrie here (Laura’s daughter). Mom asked me to write an update while she’s in the hospital.

She came through the surgery very well this morning. It lasted around 2 ½ hours. No transfusions or other complications. The procedure went as planned. It was a modified radical hysterectomy, and as expected some lymph nodes were also removed. She’s in recovery now.

Based on the physical exam today, the cancer seems to be more complex than we had hoped. Pathology tests will be performed on the removed tissue, and the results should come back in about 3-5 days. We are waiting for those reports before any conclusions or follow-up recommendations will be made.

I also want to thank you for the love, support and prayers you have given. It means more than you can know.

Carrie,

Thank you so much for keeping us abreast of your mom's progress. Last night after work I checked my email and called a church friend to try to find out any news - unsuccessfully. This morning it occurred to me to check your mom's blog and I am so grateful I did. I hadn't read the blog since over a week ago. (I am not a tech savvy person!!). Please let your mom and family know we are wrapping you in our prayers with thoughts for comfort and healing and wonderful nurses and staff to care for you all. God Bless. Jan

Laura, I have just read Carrie's note on your blog. Thank you for sharing with all of us. We continue to keep you and your family in prayer as you now begin the healing and waiting process. I know from my own hysterectomy years ago that just the act of healing can be daunting. But also it is good to be on the receiving end even though that is not what we women do best. Another of God's gifts! Keep up your wonderful spirit and we will wrap you in prayer from our end. Love, Pat Keller

Peace to you,

here is a prayer from my Orthodox prayer book:

O holy Father, heavenly Physician of our souls and bodies who has sent thine only begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, to heal all our ailments and deliver from death, do thou visit and heal thy servant Laura. Deliver her from pain and grant her restoration to health and vigor that she might give thanks to Thee and bless thy holy name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

In Christ,
Susan
